it all in public. today a judge waded into the fight over a new public nudity ban in san francisco. city officials say it's a matter of public safety. nudity advocates say it's an attempt to cover up their constitutional rights. and while both sides battled in court, protesters bared their souls and a lot more on the courthouse steps. nbc bay area's kimberly little terry joins us with the latest on what happened inside and outside of that croom. >> raj, we should know by the end of the month whether it will be a crime to be naked on the streets of san francisco. today a federal judge said he would hand down his ruling on the constitutionality of a new anti-nudity law before it's set to take effect february 1st. public nudity activists who filed a federal lawsuit seeking to invalidate the new law argue it violates their first amendment rights. they say nudity is a form of expression. but in court today, the deputy city attorney argued that simply disrobing in public doesn't send any clear political message. instead she told the judge, it's a threat to public safety. >> there's concern abo

on his mind right now. he's got this big situation going on here in san francisco. he wants his name cleared of any wrongdoing. and yesterday, crabtree voluntarily met with san francisco police before he boarded a mid-afternoon flight to atlanta. police say the sexual assault allegation involves crabtree inside a san francisco hotel early sunday morning, the day after the 49ers beat the green bay packers. crabtree was not detained or arrested. this is what his lawyer had to say today. he released this statement saying, "on friday, january 18, 2013, michael crabtree voluntarily met with san francisco police department and provided a statement. michael fully cooperated with the inspectors and will continue to do so throughout the investigation out of respect and integrity for the process. we have no further comment at this time." as you mentioned earlier, he did not talk to any reporters since the news came out. chances are he will talk after the nfc championship game tomorrow. we're not for sure exactly if he will talk regarding this case. crabtree is expected to play against the falc

at san francisco. temperatures expected to reach freezing and if you're driving around, get ready because there's the potential for black ice on the road. we bring in our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri who has been tracking the cold and i know you keep saying this. the key to this is layers. >> yes, layer up. three to four 0 of them the next couple of mornings. our latest storm system is arriving. not too much moisture back behind it but major cold air will drop temperatures over the next two days anywhere from about 0 to 25 degrees. even tracking some slick conditions. throughout oakland, down the peninsula, spotty showers that will make it down throughout san jose. there's not going to be a whole lot of moisture left but we are looking at snow levels dropping to 1,000 feet. you are at the greatest risk. a dusting expected, even some black ice if you're traveling throughout the east bay and the north bay. if you're heading south to the coastline, a rare and unusual coastal snow advisory at least in our viewing area. you can seep the snow advisory in effect for 1,500 feet. 1 to 3 inches

this hour? >> reporter: we now know the san francisco police department dug a hole here and recovered some woen fragments. the focus is the yard right next to that greenhouse. sources say the bones appear to be animal, but the medical examiner is now taking a closer look at those bones. the san francisco police department, the fbi and the alameda county sheriff's department served a search warrant here at 7:00 a.m. related to the kevin collins case. the alameda county sheriff's department says they provide add cadaver dog for the search. construction workers say police dug a hole between two homes, removed some evidence, and then asked the workers to fill that hole in with concrete. kevin collins was 10 years old when he disappeared here. it was february 10, 1984, when he didn't return home from basketball practice. he was last seen at oak and mesonic talking to a man. that location is just two blocks from where they are now searching. neighbors say they remember the high-profile abduction 28 years ago. >> it was very odd that no one had seen anything or couldn't recall anything, and i thi

with the moisture with us tonight and showers from san francisco to points to the north and off to the east even in vallejo. let's take you outside to our live hd sky camera and there it is, very wet silicon valley. also up here in san francisco look at that haze that we've had the past couple of days. it's just pushed way down to the is yo surface but this rain is going to be clearing that out with some improved air quality for tomorr tomorrow. now we're going to get the latest system pushing off to the east. as we head throughout friday here comes another system. it's pretty weak. it's going to keep the chance of showers in the forecast for friday, also lingering showers for sunday and also maybe even into monday of next week and temperatures that are going to trend cooler than we started off with to start this week. we had 70 at the coastline on monday and over the next couple of days we're just talking about 50s. rain time line tonight has this moisture sticking with us, at least a chance of rain for the entire greater bay area. then for tomorrow, it starts to lessen up. we'll have a few spo
